Mount Rushmore is located in Keystone, South Dakota and is a memorial to the first 150 years of our country. It features 60 foot tall faces of 4 US Presidents; George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. It was built between 1927 and 1941 by Gutzon Borglum. Originally the land belonged to the Lakota
Indians and the acquisition of the land is still under controversy today. Behind the heads is a chamber named, the “Hall of Records” and includes copies of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and biographies of the four presidents and builder. Mount Rushmore is a scenic 37 miles from Downtown Sturgis.
